Clare enjoys a highly successful and varied career as performer, teacher and author, and is a well-known figure on the International flute scene. Clare's many prizes include, International First Prize Winner of America's National Flute Association Competition, and Prize Winner of the Madeira International Flute Competition.
Her studies were completed at the Royal Northern College of Music and her inspiration for performance comes from the many master classes she participated in, with Geoffrey Gilbert, William Bennett, Marcel Moyse, Peter Lucas Graf, Aurel Nicolet, Jean- Pierre Rampal and James Galway.

Clare was formerly Principal Flute with Aquarius, with whom she made several commercial recordings, and has worked with many leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia, Halle and ECO. Appearances on radio and television are frequent and she has recorded two acclaimed CD's, Sonatas and Classic Touch. Her latest recording is for the Flutewise Project, which features an English program. She is in great demand as performer and master class presenter, and has regular invitations to perform in Europe, America and for International Flute Festivals.
Clare is recognized as one of the country's leading flute teachers and was Professor of Flute at the Royal Northern College of Music for 17 years. She has now taken up her new position as Professor of Flute at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Clare has always had a great deal of contact with young musicians, teaching for many years at RNCM Junior School and Chetham's School of Music. She now also teaches at the Purcell School in London.
Her books "Flute Aerobics", "Light Aerobics" and "Sequentials" have become best sellers. She is "mentor" for the ABRSM's Professional development Course for teachers and has written course work for the MTTP teacher development course at Reading University. She has directed her own summer school for the last 14 years.
